The Road
This is an exploration on the theme of the Road, based
on a recent personal journey - an 800 kilometre walk to
Santiago de Compostella, Spain, following the Camino
Frances.
Walking in the footsteps of millions of other pilgrims
atop the windy mountains, through the arid, isolated
Meseta and the misty forests of Galicia inspired an
exploration into the meaning of pilgrimage and the power
of relics.
This series include lockets and boxes - personal
reliquaries - containers for "relics" (memories from home,
mementos from the journey), brooches and pendants that
allude to the experience of walking slowly through
various landscapes, as well as rings and bangles evoking
medieval calligraphy and architecture.
